Aaron Orr (b.1995)

Born and raised in Fort Wayne, IN. Graduated from DePauw University in 2018 with a Major in Arts of the African Diaspora and a Minor in Studio Art.

Aaron’s work takes a whimsical approach on the relationship between humans and the finite materials from which all things are constructed, space dust and dirt. Through a process of throwing and hand building, human forms are concieved at a simplistic level by eliminating extremities and focusing on the visage. Glaze and oil are used to bring emotion and stories to life while maintaining the raw authenticity of the unprocessed material. This organic perspective allows each piece to portray individual characteristics and unique stories while maintaining the fundamental material that bridges them together. As people, we all have distinctive narratives and attributes that construct our outward appearance. However, akin to Aaron’s work, at a fundamental level we are all made of space dust and dirt. My work sheds light on this common thread so we may see humanity in everyone.

Aaron currently works as an independent installation contractor for various galleries around the Fort Wayne and Indianapolis areas. Simultaneously, Aaron works out of his in-home studio in Fort Wayne, IN.
